Circadian rhythm disorders
» You are here » The Problem » Circadian rhythm disorders
In the normal functioning of the human body involving biological rhythms, which act as internal markers in the physiologic regulation. When these rhythms are regular and consistent with a temporal pattern of 24 hours, and there is no sleep disorder whatsoever, these are called circadian rhythms.
The regulation is inherent to the circadian sleep wake cycle and circadian rhythm disorders are characterized by a disturbance of the circadian cycle, so that it matches the light periods, dayperiod, waking and nighttime, darkperiod, with the period of rest or sleep.
A lack of synchronization between the endogenous circadian organization and individual exogenous conditions affecting the timing of sleep duration and results in disturbances in the normal sleep-wake cycle.
