Idiopathic hypersomnia is one of the main sleeping disorders based on an abnormal dilation of sleep at night with difficult waking episodes associated with excessive daytime sleepiness, chronically present and no underlying cause to explain it.
Subjects with idiopathic hypersomnia sleep their days lengthen their sleep around ten hours, which they complete by several naps during the day. The huge amount of sleep is not translated into a restorative effect and these patients suffer the same consequences of sleep deprivation.
