First we want to give you our thanks for your confidence in the Orthoapnea appliance, that will help you to come to rest by having a regenerative sleep.
Orthoapnea® is especially designed for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea. In this instruction sheet we will show you the correct guidelines for use of the Orthoapnea appliance and also the necessary care instructions for your Orthoapnea® will always remain as the first day.
Daily use of the Orthoapnea® appliance
Orthoapnea® reduces the symptoms of snoring and sleep apnea. In case of difficulty in breathing while using the appliance please contact your doctor.
You could note a mild discomfort of the mandible or teeth during the first days of use of Orthoapnea®. This occurs only temporarily until you have got used to your Orthoapnea appliance. In case of remaining of this discomfort please contact your doctor.
In case of feeling a strange sensation of your bite, please use the bite stabilisator to correct the position of your mandible. This change is caused by the advancement of the mandible during the night.
There are possible side effects referring to Orthoapnea® which are not universally valid, so if you have one of the following problems please contact your doctor.
- Mobility of the teeth
- Permanent discomfort of the bite
Please inspect your Orthoapnea appliance prior to each use. If you observe any cracks or material degradation please contact your doctor.
How to place the Orthoapnea® appliance!
Positioning of the upper part:
Use your thumbs to push the splint from the bottom to snap it over the teeth and make sure that it fits correctly.
Positioning of the lower part:
Push the splint downwards to both sides onto the molars.
Please relax carefully the mandible once the Orthoapnea® is placed correctly.
How to take out the Orthoapnea appliance!
Take the inferior splint out by pushing it slightly upwards. Now you can continue with the lower splint by pushing it downwards with your thumbs.
Which purpose has the bite stabilisator?
The bite stabilisator is used to put your jaw back into the normal bite position, after using the Orthoapnea appliance several hours.
Therefore you could have the sensation that your bite position has changed. The bite stabilisator serves to adjust the mandible to its original position.
Place the bite stabilisator between your teeth (upper and lower jaw) and start to bite on it slowly.
Repeat the process a few times on both sides of the jaw until the it is back in normal bite position.
How to clean the Orthoapnea appliance!
To clean the appliance there are some possibilities:
- Clean the appliance with your tooth brush, cold water and neutral soap. After that rinse Orthoapnea thoroughly.
- Clean it with dental appliance detergents of the pharmacy.
- Clean it with the Ultrasonic Cleaner device.
To avoid a discoloration of the Orthoapnea appliance, prevent the consumption of colouring liquids like coffee, tea, cola or wine while using the appliance and brush your teeth before and after using Orthoapnea®. Please store the clean and dry appliance in the Orthoapnea box.
Please avoid following points
Do not clean the Orthoapnea appliance with hot water.
Do not use toothpaste.
Contraindications
Do not wear the Orthoapnea appliance in case of:
- Loose teeth
- Teeth mobility
- Central sleep apnea
- Patients under 18 years of age
Possible side effects
Using the Orthoapnea device may cause in rare cases temporary side effects that should disappear shortly after application:
- Slight tooth or jaw discomfort
- Increased salivation
- Temporary bite changes that disappear after using the occlusion trainer in the morning after removing the device.
If these side effects continue, please contact your dentist.
